Principal and Senior Station Strategist
"Great training is the first step to successful execution."
As a Senior Strategist and Principal of AR&D, Fred is a masterful teacher. His training has helped businesses and journalists achieve their goals for nearly three decades. He has the ability to show participants how to put life into strategies for news and marketing. Fred goes beyond what others do because his approach draws individuals into the process. They learn how to take ownership and seize opportunities.
Fred recently received rave reviews for a new digital library of what he calls "Learning Tools" - a unique mix of Best Practices and common mistakes. Collaborator on the project, AR&D Strategist Bob Kaplitz, described Fred as "driven and an uniquely talented teacher."
Fred also led an AR&D team that developed a competitive analysis of news and marketing with video clips to illustrate the points. Clients call this "revolutionary" because each analysis provides a powerful teaching opportunity for the staff.
Fred uses his experience to teach extraordinary execution. And that experience includes photographer, reporter, producer, executive producer, main anchor, news director, and station manager. He has experience in all size markets, including the top ten DMAs. Fred also served as vice president of an entertainment business and vice president and co-owner of a radio station.
Education, Background and Industry Service
His under graduate work focused on journalism and pre-med. Fred has degrees from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota in Biology and Communications with an emphasis in journalism. Fred helped launch a campus radio station and helped operate it for three years.
He has produced several workshops for RTNDA and has taught classes at the University of Michigan, University of South Carolina, and the University of Texas. He has chaired two committees to put cameras in court.
Fred is also a proud member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. His Native American background gives him focus and balance in his professional and personal life. That is another reason why he makes people think in a way they never thought possible.
Fred makes his home in Grapevine, Texas with his wife, Stephanie and two children and "Duke" their Golden Retriever. When he is not spending time with his family, he travels, enjoys hunting and fishing, and coaches just about anything. He is the first to admit he has a great life!
